Fiona Stanley Hospital – Cockburn Health

Fiona Stanley Hospital – Cockburn Health

Fiona Stanley Hospital Cockburn Health is a dedicated 75-bed inpatient mental health facility located in Cockburn Central, Western Australia.

As a non-authorised hospital exclusively for voluntary female patients, we provide a safe, supportive, and healing environment tailored to the unique mental health needs of women from across Western Australia.

Our facility features purpose-built therapy rooms for inpatients, as well as dedicated wellness and recovery spaces for outpatient therapies and specialist consultations ensuring continuity of care throughout everyone’s recovery journey.

Women’s-only care matters

Women in Australia experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicidal behaviours, especially among:

  • Aboriginal women
  • LGBTIQA+ individuals
  • perinatal women (women who are pregnant or have given birth within the last 12 months)
  • those with histories of trauma and abuse.

Traditional mixed-gender mental health wards can feel unsafe for many women. At Cockburn Health, we provide a gender-specific environment where women can heal with dignity and safety.

Our services

Cockburn Health offers specialised services for women in the areas of:

  • mental health care and recovery
  • eating disorder treatment and support
  • alcohol and other drug (AOD) behavioural management and withdrawal support.

Our statewide service is built on a foundation of therapeutic, recovery-oriented care within a welcoming and respectful setting.

At Cockburn Health, patients are supported by a compassionate, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering client-focused, evidence-based mental health care.

To ensure holistic and coordinated support, we work closely with:

  • the Mental Health Commission
  • other health service providers
  • the non-government sector.

Carers, families and support persons – you're welcome

At Cockburn Health, we recognise recovery is stronger when families, carers, and support persons are involved.

We are committed to working in partnership with you to support the wellbeing of your loved one.

How we support you

  • With the patient’s consent, you are welcome to be involved in their care planning and recovery journey.
  • The patient’s allocated nurse is your main point of contact. If unavailable, the shift coordinator can assist.
  • Patient care is provided by a team of professionals including doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, peer workers and more.
  • You can request a meeting to discuss care plans, raise concerns, and receive updates.
  • We can connect you with carer services, counselling, respite, advocacy, and support tailored to your cultural and language needs.
  • We provide you with the WA Carers Charter to inform you of your rights and our commitment to working collaboratively.
  • We value your role and look forward to supporting you as part of the care team.
