Associate Professor Laurens Manning, Consultant Physician Infectious Diseases – Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG)
Through his roles as an infectious disease physician and clinical researcher at Fiona Stanley Hospital, University of Western Australia and Honorary Fellow at Telethon Kids Institute, Associate Professor Laurens Manning’s diverse research portfolio continually improves outcomes for patients both locally and globally.
His work includes design and implementation of clinical trials and studies into diabetic foot infections, large scale observational studies and trials of peri-prosthetic joint infections, observational and pharmacological studies in children with malaria, and severe infections for older patients.
A generous and engaging collaborator, Associate Professor Manning’s leadership of national and international collaborative research and outstanding publication output has helped push SMHS to the forefront of Australian infectious diseases research. With over 150 published papers and 2,500 plus citations, his research has directly translated into improvements in clinical practice, changes to guideline recommendations and advances in safety, efficiency and quality of care.
Professor Girish Dwivedi, Consultant Cardiology – FSFHG
As an international researcher trained over three continents, Professor Girish Dwivedi has collaborated with world-leading researchers and clinicians, securing grants, driving sophisticated imaging findings, and developing new methods such as artificial intelligence-based techniques, to advance cardiovascular care.
A Consultant Cardiologist at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH), he is also the inaugural Wesfarmers Chair in Cardiology at the University of Western Australia (Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research) and chair of the national CT coronary angiography credentialling committee.
Professor Dwivedi’s research career is distinguished by his ability to identify and address critical gaps in the treatment of patients with co-existing cardiovascular and metabolic conditions to advance patient care and outcomes.
Closing working with the Endocrinologists at FSH, Professor Dwivedi’s established a cardiometabolic clinic to provide early intervention for high-risk patients with cardiometabolic health problems, targeted at reducing future risk.
He has had a significant impact on the careers of young clinician researchers and scientists, taking great pride in mentoring and fostering their professional growth
