SMHS shines at 2025 WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards

South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) was well represented at this year's WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards (WANMEA), with Fiona Stanley Hospital's (FSH) Monique Carbone announced as winner of the Excellence in Registered Nursing award category, at the gala ball on 10 May 2025.
Currently practicing as a clinical nurse at the FSH Spinal Cord Injury Unit, Monique was recognised for her outstanding ambition and dedication to upskill in her career, demonstrated through various secondments into specialist roles, and her implementation of a special sexual health program for spinal cord-injured patients.
A huge congratulations to Monique, and all winners, on their fantastic achievements.
As the state's leading awards celebrating exceptional nurses and midwives who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to patient care, to be recognised at this level is a huge achievement.

"Our nursing and midwifery colleagues have a huge impact on the lives of Western Australians and it's wonderful to see them being recognised at this level for their efforts," Neil said.
SMHS Nursing and Midwifery Area Director Peta Fisher extended her congratulations to Monique on behalf of everyone at SMHS.
"We couldn't be prouder to see Monique representing our registered nursing colleagues and congratulate her for her category win.
