Cancer care partnership strengthens health promotion in Rockingham and Kwinana

A valuable partnership between the Rockingham Peel Group Integrated Cancer Service, South Metropolitan Health Service Health Promotion and local government is strengthening health promotion for patients and local communities.

The multidisciplinary service provides safe, high-quality personalised care to people with cancer in the Rockingham Peel catchment area, which has a higher-than-average cancer rate compared to the rest of Western Australia.

The partnership with City of Rockingham and City of Kwinana fosters engagement with these local communities, builds understanding, and supports the shared goals of promoting healthy lifestyles.

The network met last month to share information on the latest healthy lifestyle programs in the community and news from the service. The session also included education about the patient journey through screening, cancer diagnosis, cancer treatment and recovery, helping the local government teams better understand the needs of people with cancer in their communities.

The partnership also benefits patient care, helping patients connect with healthy lifestyle programs in Rockingham and Kwinana that support their mental and physical health alongside their treatment.

Planning is underway for more engagement in the Kwinana community, with Integrated Cancer Service Head of Department Dr Sanjana Kondola to speak during Men’s Health Week in June 2026 along with a consumer who is keen to advocate change for patients in this region.
