    On the road to recovery thanks to collaborative rehabilitation teams 17 July 2022 After a regular walk along the beautiful Mandurah Estuary in November 2021, Ann Guthrie returned to her home to find her 71-year-old husband Patrick (Paddy) Guthrie unconscious on the floor. Ann said, it was a terrible feeling because she knew something was wrong but couldn’t get into the house initially. “I’d left my keys inside when I went for a walk as Paddy was home so my neighbour had to help me, and that’s when we found Paddy unconscious by the computer desk he was sitting at only half an hour earlier and I called an ambulance,” Ann said. Paddy’s time in our health system was one of true teamwork from first diagnosis through to recovery and help in his home, and it is this team approach that Paddy and Ann are truly thankful for receiving. A day in the children’s ED for a nurse is always busy, caring for multiple patients, but it can also be fun and interactive. Most children present to the ED for illnesses that require immediate attention such as fevers, gastroenteritis and broken bones.
